We spent about 14 months on the creation of The Sandal. Developing a perfect contoured footbed was one of the most important parts of the process. To do so, we sourced a specialized factory that understands the complex process of developing a classic and comfortable sandal. Mesmo a Medida is a relatively new factory in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, that solely produces premium footwear with state of the art technologies. At Mesmo a Medida the last always comes first, which gave us confidence The Sandal would fit like a glove.
Why we chose it
As we produce one impeccable version of each item, our partners should support the careful process that comes with it. No hurry, loads of experience, multiple prototypes and a lot of reflection. During our first meeting with Mesmo a Medida they showed they did their homework on Teym’s philosophy and way of working. We we’re on the same wavelength from the very first start – happy faces all around the table. Another plus for Mesmo a Medida. Their supply chain is relatively new, which allowed them to set up their factory efficiently and sustainably according to contemporary guidelines.
The process
If producing a new product it’s all about the relationship between the factory and us. No surprise you can find the factory’s production-manager Paolo among ‘favourites’ in our telephones. Day in and day out we discussed the best options for the most convenient velcro, best thickness of the sole and most flexible leather. To ensure the straps are cut efficiently and neat, Paolo advised us to use their laser cutting machines. The Sandal takes form in the steps that follow. Highly skilled craftsmen measure and shape the components around our refined lasts. Every step of the production process is done by human hands, making The Sandal a true masterpiece.
